U13: Pride of place goes to the U13 players and management team that won the North 'B' football title.
They defeated Silvermines in the North football semi-final last week in Shallee. In an entertaining game both sides had opportunities to get control of the game in the first half, but good defending and both goalkeepers pulling off some good saves kept the game tight. Goals from Ben Healy and James Ryan gave us a half-time lead. In the second half we stayed ahead of the Mines with a very good performances in defence. Two more goals from James Ryan sealed the 4-4 to 2-5 victory and our place in the final.
The final was played on Bank holiday Monday in Puckane against Newport.
We started the game well, with two early points from Jake Lenihan and Benji Browne. Newport came more into the game and their forwards were threatening on the ball. This pressure was rewarded with a goal. However as the half went on our defence stuck to their task and limited the Newport chances.
A strong finish to the half from our team was very productive with a well taken goal from James Ryan. Points from Jake Lenihan and Ben Healy were followed by another goal from James Ryan who reacted first to finish to the net from a Killian Browne shot that had been well saved. This gave us a halftime lead 2-04 to 1-01.
Again we started brightly with a point from James Ryan. Newport came back with a goal and a two-pointer and James McLoughney made a vital save to keep Newport at bay. We then got on top again and with two pointers from James Ryan and Benji Browne. Ballinahinch then held on to win the title on a score of 2-10 to 2-04.
Jack McLoughney and James Ryan lifted the cup on behalf of the team and management.
Well done to all involved with this team.
