He played senior hurling with St. Vincents (Ballinahinch/Silvermines) and Sean Treacy’s (Ballinahinch/Newport) affiliations in the 60’s. Although regarded as an uncompromising player, Mike was considered as a good sportsman and was a respected hurler not only in his own club but in neighbouring clubs also. This respect is reflected in the number of friends he made through the game.
After his playing days, he continued to be a keen supporter of the club, and even in the last few weeks was on the sideline cheering on our Junior hurlers. Mike Berkery’s long-standing contribution to the Ballinahinch Club was recognised when he was made Honorary President and in recognition of his significant service to the GAA in the county he received the Sean Gael award in 2015.

Fr. Gallagher: The annual juvenile hurling tournament takes place this Saturday in Shallee at 11am. All are welcome to attend.
